A part-time summer nanny works two to three days a week or a few hours each day; as per the requirements.   • Keeps the children busy and occupied by taking them around and engaging them in activities.

  • Takes the children for classes like arts and crafts, music, sports, etc.

  • Help the kids with their academics, if required.

  • A few families expect some housekeeping work from the nanny like making the beds, doing dishes, etc.

Based on the working hours and location; summer nannies are classified into the following:


  • Summer nannies can be full-time, part-time or flexi-time working people.

  • Summer nannies are also hired for either weekdays or only weekends.

  • Summer nannies job can be a live-in or live-out job based on the requirements of the family.

  • Summer nannies are also hired on location where a family is holidaying. They are hired to take care of the kids in the holiday location.


Summer nanny payment

During school days, parents find it easy to co-ordinate the activities of their kids with the after-school care. People hire nannies as their kids are young and not mature enough to handle themselves all alone in the home throughout the day during vacations. This is when summer nannies come to the rescue of parents.

Kids can attend summer camps where they are escorted back home by these nannies. While traveling during summer, these nannies travel along with the family to take care of the kids.   • Before traveling to another country for a summer nanny position, one should check the authenticity of the offer and the terms of contract.

Summer Au pair

Assisting children, au pairs are people who come from foreign countries for the job. Derived from the French term au pair, it literally means on par or equal to. The concept originated in Europe wherein au pairs did part time work and part time studies. However in the United States, au pairs are permitted to work for 45 hours per week. They also get the opportunity to live in the country for 2 years; they can work and study as well.

Numerous students from across the world love to travel and visit various countries, such students voluntarily take up au pair jobs. They get to travel, enjoy their vacation and earn some money as well. Au pairs are generally in the age group of late teens to mid twenties, many governments insist on this age limit too.

In the US, au pairs are treated as something more than care providers. They are looked up to as role models, coaches, mentors, teachers, big brothers, big sisters, cheerleaders, friends, etc. Au pairs stay with host families chosen by the sponsoring organization. They are provided a bedroom, food, weekend off and a cash stipend. They are allowed to work not more than 10 hours a day and not more than 45 hours per week.
